From The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo:
Vétheuil is a small town on the banks of the Seine to the northwest of Paris, and was one of the sites, along with Argenteuil, that Monet liked to visit. Monet created a series of about fifteen views of this town with its small 12th century church as it is seen from the riverbank. This landscape reveals Monet's emphasis on the ephemeral qualities of light on water as divorced from a depiction of the objective landscape. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)
