From National Gallery London:
This is probably the painting that Morisot exhibited under the title 'The Lake in the Bois de Boulogne' in the fifth Impressionist exhibition, held in 1880. Intentionally sketchy in execution, it depicts two fashionable young women in a boat floating placidly on a lake. The sense of a visual impression that has been quickly captured on canvas is reinforced by the tiny detail of a horse-drawn carriage moving swiftly along the far shore.
